Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Last updated: August 2026

Q1.How do I make a booking?
Select your route, departure date and number of passengers on our website, then proceed to book. Payment is confirmed immediately, and a booking confirmation is automatically sent to your email.
Q2.Is there a minimum group size?
No, there is no minimum group size. Solo bookings are welcome and we operate on a fixed, confirmed schedule — no need to worry about cancellations due to low numbers.
Q3.Is accommodation or a tour guide included?
No, NZ Bus Trail provides transport only. Accommodation, local tours, meals and entry fees are not included — you choose those freely. That's actually one of the biggest advantages of our service: we handle the transport, you enjoy the freedom.
Q4.How much luggage can I bring?
Each passenger is allowed 1 suitcase (max 23kg) + 1 small carry-on free of charge. Extra bags incur an additional NZD 50 per item. Please notify us at the time of booking if you have oversized luggage.
Q5.Where is the pickup location?
Depending on the route, pickup is available from key points including Christchurch CBD, Queenstown CBD, Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook. The exact pickup location, time and driver contact will be sent via WhatsApp or text the night before departure. Please arrive at the designated spot at least 15 minutes before departure.
Q7.Do I need a driver's licence?
Not at all. This is one of the key advantages of NZ Bus Trail. There's no need to navigate unfamiliar left-hand traffic or challenging mountain roads — just sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery while our professional driver does the driving.
Q8.Do I need travel insurance?
Not mandatory, but strongly recommended. We advise taking out travel insurance before your trip to cover unexpected cancellations, flight delays, injury, illness or lost luggage. Given our cancellation policy — which does not allow refunds within 7 days of departure — insurance is particularly important.
Q9.What payment methods are accepted?
We accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard), international bank transfer, and New Zealand bank transfer. A processing fee of 2–3% may apply for credit card payments. All payments are handled automatically through the booking page.
Q10.What happens if the weather is bad?
New Zealand's South Island weather can be unpredictable. If road closures or severe conditions make it impossible to operate, we will arrange an alternative date or process a refund as quickly as possible. For general bad weather, we prioritise safety when deciding whether to proceed.
